Overview

Your prospects' wealth doesn't stop at the border. Founders sell to overseas buyers, executives run global businesses, families hold assets across several jurisdictions, and more of your alumni and supporters live and work abroad. Yet international prospecting is where many teams feel least confident. Disclosure rules change from country to country, company structures look unfamiliar, and the data you rely on at home may not exist at all.

This session explains how global business works and what that means for prospect research. It gives you the practical knowledge to identify international prospects, make sense of what overseas companies do and don't disclose, and judge capacity with confidence when the paper trail is thin.

What The Session Will Cover

  • Understanding Global Business

How international businesses are built and how they grow, from family conglomerates in Asia to US venture-backed tech and European private groups. We look at where wealth is being created around the world, which sectors and markets are driving it, and how global deal activity, listings and private markets turn business success into personal wealth.

  • Corporate Structures Around the World

Holding companies, groups, subsidiaries, branches and representative offices, and why each one changes what's filed, where, and how much you'll ever see. We compare common company types across key jurisdictions, and look at why a UK or US subsidiary can make a global group, and its owners, look far smaller than they really are.

  • Identifying International Prospects

How to spot the international connections already in your database: overseas directorships, parent companies, cross-border deals, and alumni and supporters building careers abroad. We cover the signals that suggest someone is a significant global owner or high earner, and how to prioritise international names within a portfolio.

  • Where to Find the Data

The most useful international sources, including company registries, stock exchange filings, beneficial ownership registers, rich lists, deal and funding databases, and local media. We look at what each source does well, where it falls short, and how to combine them to build a credible picture.

  • Understanding Data Limitations

Why disclosure varies so widely between countries, and how to work around limited filings, different accounting standards (GAAP vs IFRS), currency effects and language barriers. We show how to recognise when the data is telling you something, when it isn't, and how to present uncertain international estimates responsibly.

  • Tax, Tax Havens & the Millionaire Exodus

An introduction to how tax shapes where wealth is held and where wealthy people choose to live, including the role of offshore jurisdictions and recent moves towards ownership transparency. We also separate fact from fiction on the “millionaire exodus”: what the headlines claim, what the data actually shows, and what it means for your prospects.

  • Ask Strategy

How to turn international research into action: understanding wealth creation moments in different markets, how local giving culture and tax incentives can shape an approach, and how to plan cultivation and asks across borders and time zones.

Who’s It For?
