FIC FAQs

What is a NanoTalk?

A NanoTalk no more than 6, 12 or 18 minutes long, encouraging exceptionally concise and precise ‘to the point’ content

Can you really gain insight from a short talk?

The format of 6, 12 or 18 minutes is exactly how TED Talks delivers their sessions as Chris Anderson, TED Curator, said:

“The 18-minute length also works much like the way Twitter forces people to be disciplined in what they write. By forcing speakers who are used to going on for 45 minutes to bring it down to 18, you get them to really think about what they want to say. What is the key point they want to communicate? It has a clarifying effect.”

What is a NanoWave?

A NanoWave is simply NanoTalks grouped into a overarching theme. Here we have purposefully combined speakers and sessions that are related to one another to offer a compounded learning effect.

Can I switch NanoWaves during FIC?

Yes, you can switch when you like simply by pressing the appropriate link - to be shared nearer the time after booking.

What’s all this about interdisciplinary learning?

We know there are times where only a professional in your own sector will do. We also know there are times where getting outside perspectives can be of huge benefit. We believe that conferences are all about new ideas and inspiration. So purposefully inviting a balanced range of individuals from ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ the charity sector, we aim to create a rich learning environment where new ideas are plentiful.

Is the Unlimited Ticket really Unlimited?

Yes! Anyone who works in your department can attend by the link shared, we only ask you give us a general idea of the numbers that are intending to attend.

I’m based outside the UK & Europe, is it for me?

We would say yes! We invite speakers from across the globe, many of whom are based in the US. There may be content from time to time that is focused on the UK simply because that is where we are based, however there will always be learning to take away one way or another.

Due to my Time Zone, I will not be able to attend morning sessions, does this matter?

No. Each Day has an overall theme, however each NanoWave is, in a sense, self contained. You do not have to watch them in order. Even if you miss the morning, you can watch the recording another day. We always recommend joining live where you can, as the Q&A is often one of the most enjoyable and beneficial parts of an online conference. But we understand this is not always possible and have kept this in mind whilst designing the event.

Due to other commitments, I can’t attend the conference live, can I just purchase the recordings?

Simply purchase a ticket as you would as if attending live, and we’ll ensure you’ll get the recordings for the event after they have aired.

How do I get the Recordings?

Everyone who books a ticket will receive access to the recordings for up to 1 month after the last day and will be available via the same Event Portal. Longer access can be offered based on individual needs.

Do your Partners have a influence over content?

No. The final decision of all content of our sessions is the PyroTalks CIC Team.

How will we access the event?

We are creating a Event Portal on our website where all the links to the NanoWaves will be present to simply click & enter at the time they start.

What platform do you use?

We have explored many platforms for this event. However, for this first one will use Zoom as it is one of the most stable, easy to use and interactive platforms we have tested. It is also now one of the most secure platforms available and popular across the not-for-profit sector.

How do you keep your tickets at such a low price?

We believe in making specialist knowledge as accessible as possible, so we try to keep our costs down. We do this with the support of our Partners, Committee Members, Advisors and other associated organisations.

Where do the funds raised go?

They go to cover the costs of the event, including staff time and any surplus is reinvested back into the cause. As a CIC we publish our Accounts around April each year where all spending will be reported, as well as an explanation as to how we have met our CIC aims. Any surplus from our events go direct back into the cause and as a CIC we can never export the earnings to another company or entity unless it is also not-for-profit.
